TOFFIE's Sponsor Profile

UPDATE 01/22/2007:
TOFFIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
Toffie will be 3 years old in December and is
a dwarf Husky who is an unfortunate victim of severe animal abuse. Toffie has a concussion, 3 broken ribs,
a gash on her face, a dislocated hip and a very serious fracture along her femoral head. She had surgery today to
repair her hip -- Unfortunately there is some upsetting news from her surgery. Dr. Baker (Dobson
Ranch Veterinary Clinic) removed the femoral head but is unable to repair the fracture -- When
the man who violently abused her he ended up crushing her bone so there is nothing solid left
to pin/repair. Dr. Baker closed her up and has advised us that she is in severe pain from the
crushed bone and her leg will likely need to be amputated. It's amazing and quite disturbing to us
that any animal should have to endure such a horrific thing -- The intense power that it must have
taken to crush her femoral bone is too much for us to imagine.

UPDATE 11/21/2006: Toffie and her foster mom have had daily visits
to Dr. Baker's office for observation of her healing process. Unfortunately Dr. Baker has
determined that Toffie's leg will have to be amputated...she is in severe pain and the healing
process is not happening as it should .. the crushing of her bone won't allow the area to heal
as it should. Toffie is scheduled for surgery today (11/21/2006) so please keep her in your
prayers and thoughts for a successful surgery.
UPDATE 11/22/2006: Toffie did well during her surgery
and is now in her foster home recooperating --- here is an update from her foster family:
"Just a little update on "wonder girl" Toffie - picked her up last night from the
clinic. She was so groggy and tipsy. She slept all night and was up bright and early.
Richard (husband) - put her out around 4 am - he said she was fine - motoring around the
yard with the rest of the pack. When I got up, she ate a little bit, got a drink and
started chasing the cats!!! She is feeling really good Lori! So onward and upward."
Toffie has a long recovery ahead of her not only for her physical trauma but also
for her emotional wellbeing -- she will need to learn to trust and discover that she is a
good girl and will never be harmed again - and that not all humans are bad.
