Adoption Information
The national average: Only one in ten animals remains with its
adoptive family for life.
That is a staggering and unacceptable statistic. The remaining nine get tossed around through multiple homes, taken
to the pound, lost, or worse.
This terrible statistic is largely due to uninformed decisions, such as choosing a puppy because it is a pretty
color, looks like it will be small, or because it looks just like the one on television.
At Valley Cats and Dogs we make every effort to place the right animal in the right home.
To aid in this goal, we use trained Adoption Consultants to help you select the best match for your lifestyle. You will meet with an Adoption Consultant
and discuss your lifestyle, activity level, expectations, likes/dislikes, and past experiences with animals. Your
consultant will then recommend the best match for your family and your lifestyle.
Adoption Return Policy:
LifeTime Return Policy
- If for some reason things don't work out with you and one
of the cats or dogs you've adopted from us, your contract
with us requires you to return to animal to us at any
time, no questions asked. If the return occurs within
the first 30 days of adoption, the adopter may be eligible
for a refund of 85% of the adoption fee.
Common questions about our adoption process.
Can
I still request a specific dog or cat?
** Yes! All such requests are taken into account by our Adoption Consultants.
What if I don't like any of the dogs or cats selected by the Adoption Consultant?
** Then we'll keep looking for your perfect match!
But I'll know the right animal when I see it...can't I just look at all of them and pick the one
I know will be right?
** If you could select the best match for you just by appearance or a "feeling", divorce attorneys would be out of business!
Your intuition and feelings do count, as do the animal's instincts toward you. After the Adoption Consultant selects
preliminary matches, you will spend time with each animal. If the chemistry isn't there....we keep searching.
I already have a dog and am looking to adopt another one. Can I bring my current dog?
** We encourage and welcome you to bring any dogs you currently have. It is important that your dog be involved in selecting his
or her new best friend! NOTE: Please do not bring your cat or other small animals to meet any of our cats or dogs. The environment is very stressful for cats/kittens and small animals and we do not encourage families to bring these type of pets to the store.
Is my new cat/dog guaranteed healthy?
** No one can predict when an animal will get sick. Generally, only animals that appear healthy and that appear free of any symptoms
are shown for adoption. We do have some special needs animals that are available for adoption and
any known temporary or permanent ailments or conditions will be fully disclosed.
Every dog has a "microchip". What is that?
** A microchip is a tiny implant placed
under the skin between the shoulder blades. The implant is about
the size of a grain of rice and neither you nor the dog can feel
it. Animal shelters and veterinarians have special readers that
can detect microchip information which assists in locating the
animal's owner. A microchip is a permanent method of identification
and if your dog gets lost, it could be your dog's last chance
for getting home.
Medical
All of our dogs and cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated!
** Dogs are vaccinated and
microchipped with the Avid or HOME AGAIN microchip.
** Vaccinations vary depending on age and other factors. You will receive a vaccination
history of your new animal friend.
** All dogs over 4 months of age are vaccinated for Rabies as required
by law. All dogs will receive the DHPP, DHPP-C, DHLPP, or DHLPP-C vaccines.
** All cats have been tested for FELV and FIV and are vaccinated with
the 4-in-1 vaccine.
Your adoption consultant will explain your new friend's vaccination history.
